Superman is a fictional superhero, who first appeared in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, and first appeared in the comic book Action Comics #1 (cover-dated June 1938 and published April 18, 1938). Superman has been adapted to a number of other media including radio serials, novels, movies, television shows and theatre.

A son of General Zod appeared in the animated film Justice League: Gods and Monsters, voiced by Benjamin Bratt. This character is the genetically-engineered child of Zod and Lara Lor-Van, who was rocketed to Earth as a child from Krypton following Zod's murder of Jor-El. Upon his arrival on Earth, the baby is named Hernan Guerra and was raised by a family of honorable and hardworking Mexican migrant farmers. Having gone through the troubles that undocumented immigrants face in the United States, Guerra has become short-tempered and withdrawn from humanity and developed a deep contempt and resentment for authority. Despite this, he would go on to become his universe's version of Superman and leader of the Justice League. Due to his willingness to use lethal force against enemies and plans to topple world governments and reorganize world leadership under the Justice League's rule, he is criticized by Lois Lane and resented by Lex Luthor and President Amanda Waller. While foiling Will Magnus's plot to subjugate the world using nanites and learning his father was responsible for Krypton's destruction, Guerra comes to realize the consequences of his brutality, earns back public favor, and considers using less lethal methods.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters is a 2015 direct-to-video animated superhero film, part of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series. It features an alternate universe version of the DC Comics superhero team the Justice League. It was released as a download on July 21, 2015, and released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 28, 2015.

In an alternate universe, the Justice League—Batman (Dr. Kirk Langstrom), Wonder Woman (Bekka), and Superman (Hernan Guerra, son of General Zod)— is an autonomous brutal force that maintains order on Earth; thus public opinion is mixed with awe and hatred. Scientists Victor Fries, Ray Palmer, and Silas Stone, along with his young son Victor are killed by methods similar to the Justice League. President Amanda Waller asks they cooperate with the government's investigation. Wonder Woman speaks to Steve Trevor to learn what the government knows. At the same time, Superman invites Lois Lane to the Tower of the Justice, where he tells her of his goals to help humanity and reveals how little he knows about Krypton or his heritage.
