The First Order, also known as the Order, was a hermit state and military junta that emerged during the era of the New Republic , approximately three decades after the fall of the Galactic Empire . Though once a remnant of the Empire , the First Order evolved into a separate faction yet nonetheless remained influenced by New Order ideology. Under the rule of Supreme Leader Snoke , the First Order military was mobilized through a clandestine rearmament program that violated the Galactic Concordance —the peace treaty that ended the Galactic Civil War .
