Carla Unger was a researcher working for Morse Laboratories , who was investigating a sample of the Carnage symbiote provided to Morse by Spider-Man . When analyzing a fraction of the sample, she received a phone call from her abusive husband, Will . The tissue sample reacted to her hatred of him and entered her body through her left eye. Carla burned the rest of the sample and left to her house, as she was being waited for by Will. Upon returning home, Carla went to her bathroom since she felt ill. As Will aggressively talked to her from the other side of the door, the Carnage symbiote influenced Carla into killing Will. She then attacked the facility of Morse Laboratories and escaped to a gasoline station outside the city, in which the symbiote left her for a new host after having consumed Carla from the inside out. Carnage (Cletus Kasady)  is a fictional  supervillain  appearing in  American comic books  published by  Marvel Comics , usually as an enemy of  Spider-Man . The character first appeared as Kasady in  The Amazing Spider-Man  #344 (March 1991) and as Carnage in  The Amazing Spider-Man  #360. Carnage was created by writer  David Michelinie  and artists  Erik Larsen  and  Mark Bagley , based on elements of the precursor character  Venom . Along with Venom, the character belongs to a race of  amorphous   extraterrestrial   parasites known as the  Symbiotes . Venom , or the Venom Symbiote, is a  fictional character  appearing in  American comic books  published by  Marvel Comics , commonly in association with  Spider-Man . Venom made his first appearance in  The Amazing Spider-Man  #300 (May 1988). Venom was originally conceived as a supervillain, but has since become more of an  antihero . Venom is a  Symbiote , a sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form. As with real-world symbiotes, it requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. After bonding, the Symbiote endows its enhanced powers upon the host. When the Venom Symbiote bonds with a human, that new dual-life form refers to itself as "Venom".
