The Lord of the Rings - Prancing Pony, Green Dragon - Coasters - (Zbox August 2020)
The Prancing Pony (i.e. the Inn of the Prancing Pony) was an inn in Bree where Frodo Baggins, Sam, Pippin, and Merry first met Strider.
The Prancing Pony was based inside the central hub of the town, near stables and various merchant stalls. Since Bree was built on the major road of the Greenway, it was a fairly well-traveled inn, and was so accustomed to hobbits that designated hobbit-rooms had been built. Barliman Butterbur was the inkeeper at the time of the War of the Ring. Nob and Bob were two hobbits that worked under him: Nob was a general servant, and Bob was as a ostler, tending to the horses and ponies.

The Green Dragon was a popular inn of Bywater and was frequented by Hobbits from Bywater itself and the neighboring settlement of Hobbiton.
While the precise date of the inn's construction is unknown, by TA 2941 it was already a popular location, when Bilbo Baggins met Thorin and Company there at the outset of their quest.
In TA 3018, Samwise Gamgee was present at the pub while repeating a story told by his cousin Hal, who believed he had seen a walking tree in the Northfarthing, though Ted Sandyman laughed at him.
Frodo Baggins regularly visited the inn as did his friends Sam Gamgee, Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took. When they returned from their quest in TA 3019, they found the inn ransacked, with its windows broken. It was most likely restored following the Battle of Bywater and liberation of the Shire.

A coaster, drink coaster, beverage coaster, or beermat is an item used to rest beverages upon. Coasters protect the surface of a table or any other surface where the user might place a beverage.
Public houses usually will have beermats spread out across their tables. They are used not just to protect the surface of the table, but, as they are usually made of paper, they can also be used to absorb condensation dripping along the glass or serve as an ad-hoc notepad. Beermats are often branded with trademarks or alcohol advertising. Beermats are not to be confused with bar mats, rectangular pieces of rubber or absorbent material used to protect the countertop and soak up spilled drinks in a bar or pub.
