Venom , or the Venom Symbiote, is a  fictional character  appearing in  American comic books  published by  Marvel Comics , commonly in association with  Spider-Man . Venom made his first appearance in  The Amazing Spider-Man  #300 (May 1988). Venom was originally conceived as a supervillain, but has since become more of an  antihero . Venom is a  Symbiote , a sentient alien, with a gooey, almost liquid-like form. As with real-world symbiotes, it requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. After bonding, the Symbiote endows its enhanced powers upon the host. When the Venom Symbiote bonds with a human, that new dual-life form refers to itself as "Venom". The Venom Symbiote's first known host was Spider-Man, who eventually separated himself from the creature when he discovered its true nature. Harry Potter  is a British-American  film series  based on the  Harry Potter  novels by author  J. K. Rowling . The series is distributed by  Warner Bros.  and consists of eight  fantasy films , beginning with  Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone  (2001) and culminating with  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2  (2011). A  spin-off   prequel  series will consist of five films, starting with  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them  (2016). My Neighbor Totoro   is a 1988 Japanese  animated   fantasy film  written and directed by  Hayao Miyazaki  and produced by  Studio Ghibli . The film – which stars the voice actors  Noriko Hidaka ,  Chika Sakamoto , and  Hitoshi Takagi  – tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and Mei) of a professor and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in  postwar rural Japan . The film won the  Animage  Anime Grand Prix prize and the  Mainichi Film Award  and  Kinema Junpo Award  for Best Film in 1988. Kodama are spirit in Japanese folklore that inhabit trees , similar to the dryads of Greek mythology . The term is also used to denote a tree in which a kodama supposedly resides. The phenomenon known as yamabiko , when sounds make a delayed echoing effect in mountains and valleys, is sometimes attributed to this kind of spirit, and may also be referred to as "kodama". Kodama are prominently featured in Hayao Miyazaki's anime film Princess Mononoke .
